It features a mix of rice and beans, and it can be served with many different meats. Casa del Pollo has been the only brick-and-mortar Costa Rican restaurant on the west coast since 2011! While their specialty is aptly chicken – Casa del Pollo translates to “House of the Chicken” – their most popular dish is Gallo Pinto, a national dish of Costa Rica. Jorge is happy that many people are discovering they are back on Boones Ferry, and he is looking forward to welcoming many more.Ĭosta Rican homestyle cooking is hard to find here. When they relocated to Bangy Road, many people stepped up to support them and offer them help. Jorge knows that people appreciate and support small family owned businesses in Lake Oswego. Their Costa Rican culture and authentic love of their customers has been warmly welcomed throughout the region. Jorge is very proud that the restaurant plays such a huge part in this community. In July, the restaurant reopened at 15572 Boones Ferry Road. Owner and Manager, Jorge Zuniga knew that they needed to return back to Lake Grove. Earlier this year, they discovered there was an opening on Boones Ferry Road, next to the Lake Music Center. In 2018, Casa del Pollo relocated to Bangy Road. A few years later, they discovered they would eventually need to relocate due to the expansion of the road and the project improvements. In 2011, they opened their Costa Rican family style restaurant in the little red shack next to Naomi’s Lampshades and Lamps on Boones Ferry Road. The architecture harkens back to the original ferry dock, what with its huge wooden pillars and cross beams overhead. ![]() Today, the interior of the pub is filled with unusual artwork and colorful murals. Native Americans, who had a centuries-long tradition of crossings here, were said to have helped ferry Boone's earliest patrons via their canoes. ![]() The namesake of the road and ferry, Alphonso Boone, was grandson of famous American frontiersman Daniel Boone! Alphonso had settled this area in 1846, establishing a regular ferry service. Boone's Ferry Road ran through town center to the ferry, following the same route as an ancient Native American trail leading up the Willamette Valley. The church stood at the north end of the original village, a few blocks from the ferry crossing. This spot was a hub of activity, back in 1911 when the church was built on an ancient route just north of the site where Boone's ferry made regular crossings of the Willamette River for more than 100 years. McMenamins Old Church & Pub offers a family-friendly pub a historic renovated church a McMenamins brewery (set in the former church's basement daycare!) and an outdoor amphitheater for live music, events, receptions and more.
